Schedule a Home Visit and/or a School OrientationVisit
Once we have received all of your paperwork, application fee and deposit your child's classroom teacher will schedule a home visit and/or a school orientation visit.

An initial home visit is preferred for infants and toddlers as it allows your very young child the opportunity to meet his/her new teacher (guide) within the familiar environment of your home. The home visit also gives your child's teacher the opportunity to see the areas of your home that your child most frequently encounters opportunities for the development of independence (bedroom, bathroom, dining room). Having a mental map of these areas will help your child's teacher support you as your child needs grown and change. The Infant/Toddler Montessori Guide will also discuss with you what items will be needed for the school orientation visit and the first day of school.

A later school visit will give your child the opportunity to become familiar with their new learning environment before their first day of school. During the school orientation visit the Montessori Guide will show your child all the essential areas of the classroom (their coat hook, cubbie or clothing basket, the toilets and where/how to get a drink of water, etc.). The Montessori Guide will also familiarize your child with some introductory activities.

Please bring all items listed on the "What to Bring to School" form including any paperwork still outstanding.

Your Child's First Day at Cedar Montessori School
Please remember that a quick goodbye is essential for a smooth start to school. Upon entering the school you can support your child in getting their jacket andshoes put away if needed. Then, let your child know that you love him/her and you will be back later. One of the lovely Montessori staff will be there to guide your child into the classroom and help engage them in an indivdual or group activity. Please note, it is important that you leave the building even if your child is upset. This gives your child the information that school is a safe place which mommy and daddy trust.

During the first few days of school we will ask that one of the parents be "on-call." If you child is upset and we are unable to engage and console your child you will be called to come back to school. Please ensure that staff has your current contact details. Although many children are upset during their first few good-byes, almost all children quickly become engaged in the exciting new activities of thier new classroom!
